FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

What is the Lawyer Referral and Information Service?
The Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) is a public service of the Bar Association of Baltimore City (BABC). LRIS was formed to assist the public in obtaining qualified legal counsel, to provide general legal information to the public, and to inform the public of other resources that may be able to provide assistance. We are the first Lawyer Referral Service in the state of Maryland to be certified by the American Bar Association.

How can I obtain Legal Counsel?
Call 410-539-3112, an Intake Specialist will speak with you to determine if our service can provide you with assistance.

What will it cost?
The Lawyer Referral and Information Service is not a pro bono service. The Referral to a qualified private attorney is $35, this entitles you to a half-hour consultation. Fees for additional services are arranged between you and the attorney. For some case types the $35 consultation charge will be waived.

How can the Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS) help me?
Whether you are buying a home, starting a business, ending a marriage, or settling a dispute, LRIS can put you in touch with a lawyer that may be the solution to your problem. If you are seeking legal resources we can also provide you with the contact information to other agencies that can better address your needs or situation.
